Ray Domingue, Sr.

Owner and Founder, Ray Chevrolet-Olds


Allen Ray Domingue was born on November 8, 1925 in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.  The son of Joseph and Lucille Domingue he attended St. Bernard Elementary School and upon graduating from Breaux Bridge High School in 1942 he enrolled in Southwest Louisiana Institute which would later become the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

A year later in 1943 he joined the Army Air Corps and was a gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress.  He was discharged in 1946 and re-enrolled at S.L.I.  He graduated in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration.  The same year he acquired a Dodge-Plymouth Agency in Breaux Bridge.   He sold it later to become a partner in a Chevrolet Dealership in Jeanerette, Louisiana.

In 1953, Ray bought an interest in Domingue Chevrolet in Lafayette.  After being in business in Lafayette for seven years he purchased and was named dealer of the Chevrolet-Olds Agency in Abbeville, the former Nettles Chevrolet-Olds.  Ray Chevrolet-Olds is now in its 44th year of business.

While in Lafayette he belonged to the Krewe of Gabriel, a Mardi Gras organization, Oakbourne Country Club, and the Lafayette City Club.  In Abbeville he belonged to the Abbeville Kiwanis Club and is presently a member of the Abbeville Country Club.  He is also a member of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association and the National Auto Dealers Association.  He is presently in business in Abbeville with his sons.

He is married to the former Jonelle Plattsmier of Rayne, Louisiana and together they are the proud parents of six children, eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and six step children.
